How it works
Three gestures, from your hand to a named mineral.
Frame the stone
In daylight if you can, the stone alone in the frame. The app tells you when the shot is good.
Let it analyse
A few seconds: colour, lustre, texture and crystal habit are read by a vision model.
Read the sheet
Common and scientific name, Mohs hardness, how it formed, where it is found, and its place in crystal lore.
The app
One sheet per stone, one shelf to keep them on.
What it is
The common name up front, the scientific name below it, and a confidence rating stated plainly. Then hardness, density and crystal system — the markers to check it yourself.
Where it comes from
How the stone came to be, step by step, from a bubble in cooling lava to a crystal. Then the regions it is found in, and what crystal lore makes of it — as cultural heritage, not treatment.
Where it goes
Every identification joins your shelf, sorted by family, with the date you found it. On the phone, and backed up if you create an account.
Questions
Identifying a stone: the things we get asked most.
How reliable is the identification?
Geode offers the most likely mineral and shows how confident it is. On a polished or heavily weathered stone that confidence drops — and the app says so, rather than deciding for you. Some decisive tests (hardness, density, reaction to vinegar) simply cannot be seen in a photograph: the sheet gives you the markers to check for yourself.
Do I need a signal in the field?
Yes — the analysis runs online. With no connection the identification fails and you run it again once you have signal. A failed attempt does not use up a free identification.
What does the free version include?
A handful of complete identifications every week, with no account to create and no trial that quietly turns into a subscription. The app shows how many you have left. Beyond that, a subscription opens unlimited identifications.
Are my photos kept?
With no account they stay on your phone and we keep no copy: the photo is only transmitted for as long as the analysis takes, and is never sold, published, or used to train a model. If you create an account you can switch on a backup for them — a choice, off by default. The details are here.
Do I need an account?
No. Everything works without one, including the subscription. An account only backs up your collection so it survives a phone that is lost or replaced, and it can be deleted from within the app. What it holds is detailed here.
